What is the best 4k Camera with superzoom? In this article, I will compare 3 compact cameras from different brands.

Each camera comes with a flip screen, the ability to shoot 4K video, a superzoom and is available to purchase for under £500.

Which one will be best for you? The Canon SX740 HS vs Sony HX99 vs LumixTZ90? Let’s find out.

Canon SX740 HS vs Sony HX99 vs LumixTZ90

All three of these cameras are known as super zoom compact cameras due to the nature of their lens. At first glance, all three cameras have very similar specifications.

The cheapest 4k camera in this list is the Lumix TZ90 (also known as the Lumix  ZS70) however it is by no means a slouch. It has a viewfinder for starters which is usually only found on more expensive models. It can zoom in from 24mm-720mm which is a 30x optical zoom. A ring dial can be found on the front for a more hands-on feel which is a nice touch.

The Sony HX99 has the same 24mm-720mm lens but has a better dynamic range of ISO 80-6400.

The Sony is the smallest of the three 4K portable cameras. It also weighs the least. For those worried about their trousers being pulled down by a heavy camera in their pocket, fear no more.

The Canon SX740 brings an even longer zoom to the table with 24-960mm. How or why you would need this much I will never know but it certainly is impressive.

The Canon also has 5 axis stabilisation called IBIS which could make it the better option for vlogging or taking steady video footage. However, it doesn’t have a touch screen or view-finder like the Sony HX99 and Panasonic TZ90.

In the following video I run through the specs of each camera in more detail .

Which is the Best Camera?

All 3 will handle both photography and video pretty well. You won’t get any external microphone sockets at this price point.

The canon takes the lead video wise by including that 5 axis stabilisation, a real nice touch not included on some of their more expensive compacts.

The Panasonic and Sony will be slightly better for photography with the inclusion of the viewfinder.

Price wise, Canon SX740 and Pansonic TZ90 are within £20-30 of one another, so depending on your brand loyalty or photo/video preference either will be really good.

The Sony HX99 is indeed the most expensive of the 3. But with that extra investment you get the lightest camera with best dynamic range – meaning better highlight and shadow control.

The Pros and Cons!

For those of you that prefer to look at specifications, I have made the following table guide for you. In green you will see the advantages of each and the red highlight particular weaknesses.

Hey, do you know of any good ac couplers for the Panasonic LUMIX TZ-90 or DC-ZS70? The camera has a side micro usb “charging” port on the side of the body, but it won’t let me film and charge. Do you think a coupler is a good idea?

Ps: I’m using the camera for obs streamlabs so an outlet charged camera that I currently have would be much preferred over buying a webcam. Also, thanks for the reviews!

Hi Zach, If you are going to try a charger I would suggest getting the Pansonic official product so you don’t damage the camera. I have not tried filming and charging at the same time so can’t advise whether this would work. If you get it working would like to hear how you did it. Good luck!
